Macon, GA: Tennis Mecca of the South // Home of John Drew Smith Tennis Center, Tattnall, & More
John Drew Smith Tennis Center and Tattnall Tennis Center have made Macon, GA the hotbed of tennis, nationwide.
Whether you’re passing though Macon on your way to the coast or have ventured to the Riverside Drive exit dozens of times for annual tournament play, both John Drew Smith and Tattnall Tennis Center allow for unprecedented service and quality. With 32 total lighted hard courts and eight 8U specific courts among the Macon Bibb Park and Recreation-owned centers, the options for tournament, league, and recreational play are endless. Although both facilities host dozens of events and tournaments, they each have their own character and features that make them so unique to Middle Georgia.
Seven Full Time Teaching Professionals work to offer any and all programming that nation-wide visitors could desire at JDS and Tattnall. Both facilities run under Middle Georgia Tennis (MGT.) For those interested in membership, options range from $290 for individuals or $455 for families.
John Drew Smith Tennis Center envisioned the growth of Macon’s tennis community and has since improved upon their facility and their visitors’ needs. Recent updates to their building and viewing area are matched by well-kept and renovated courts. 19 hard courts have lights and 10U lines while four courts specifically cater to 8U tennis, and two practice walls add to the space as well. Annual tournaments, mixers, socials, league play camps, drills, and other events line each season with options for everyone.
Tattnall Tennis Center’s nine hard courts with 10U lines, four courts dedicated strictly to 8U tennis, and two practice walls allow this facility to not only be an incredible satellite facility to JDS during tournaments but also a conveniently- located alternative for tennis in Macon. Located next to Mercer University and a short distance from Downtown, Tattnall’s courts are set inside Tattnall Square Park, gorgeously landscaped with greenery, a flowing waterfall and sidewalks.
