2016 Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic at Lakewood Ranch
Lakewood Ranch hosted the 2016 Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic and saw the highest caliber of tennis from around the country on their clay courts for the seventh year. This year’s field consisted of play from teams across the country representing the SEC, ACC, BIG 10 and the PAC 10 and was sanctioned by the ITA.
Proudly supporting The V Foundation, the Florida tennis community saw a tremendous crowd that also included Dick Vitale himself. Vitale enjoyed the scene and trusts that the tournament’s efforts are making a true difference for the charity.
“I love the quality of tennis this tournament brings to the area, and the kids have a great time. We have a party at my house every year where I have a chance to speak to the kids about life and tennis. I truly cannot thank everyone here enough. Each banner costs $500 to display during the tournament, and funds benefit Pediatric Cancer for the V Foundation. Tennis is just a bonus. It’s a chance for the colleges to escape the cold weather and enjoy the sunshine, almost like a vacation!”
With the tournament’s stands filled with Lakewood Ranch members, local tennis players, and community members, this 2016 event drew attention from across the country and even from around the globe. Players competing in this event wear their team’s uniforms yet travel from various countries to experience the best tennis possible in their collegiate career. With this level of attention to college tennis, the V Foundation, and Lakewood Ranch, only positive results will prevail.

Truly a “city” of its own, Lakewood Ranch includes its own schools, hospital, retail, dining and corporate centers, and so much more. The tennis center represents not only the quality of play in the area, but also the unprecedented and vastly growing area in Florida. Cheers to Lakewood Ranch, the V Foundation, & collegiate tennis!
